Click on the image above for a larger view of the RMI Basecamp area. Below are images that correspond to the diagram above.

RMI Basecamp - This area serves as (1) the meeting place for summit climbing teams, (2) slide shows abour Rainier and international climbs and (2) a great place to get a burger, pizza and BEER!

Summit Climb Staging Area - This is the area that serves as both a covered picnic area and a staging area for those making a summit climb.

Staging area and picnicking space is under the blue/white canopy

Team Bunkhouse - This is a cheap facility for those climbers looking for just a bunk and a shower.

A front view of the Bunkhouse next to RMI Basecamp - notice the ice axes that make up the hand rail

Whittaker's Bunkhouse - This is where we will be staying on the upper level of the building that is perpendicular to the road leading past it.

A view upon coming in to Ashford - Rooms 21, 22 and 24 are on the upper level of this building

Espresso Shop - A neat little shop where they serve espressos and sell some breakfast food items, as well as soft serve ice cream. If you drive toward Mt. Rainier National Park, you will encounter a grocery store (great for food items and supplies, as well as ATM) and a post office.

Down the road toward Mt. Rainier is the Wild Berry Restaurant, a wonderful place to experience blackberry and wild berry pies

Further down toward Mt. Rainier is the famous Copper Creek Inn - a wonderful location with reasonably priced local cuisine (see picture below)

Looking to relax? On the road to Mt. Rainier is the Storm King Spa

On the same road to Mt. Rainier, is the Alexandra Restaurant/Inn - great pastas but a little higher price than other restaurants

Mt. Rainier National Park - A few images of Mt. Rainier/Paradise area.

The Nisqually Entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park

On the road to Paradise, you will see the National Park Inn - they have a nice restaurant inside as well

Arriving to Paradise, you will get some of your first glimpses of the mighty Mt. Rainier

Paradise Inn - unfortunately, closed until 2008 due to renovations

Jackson Center - a remarkable place to visit and learn about the National Park; as well, there is (when I was there last year) a little grill area on the main level for burgers, sandwiches and salads - there is also a few neat gift shops inside

The upper level of the Jackson Center gives you panoramic views of the entire region, including Mt. Rainier
