30 DAYS AND COUNTING TEAM UPDATE: March 28, 2007 Wild Miles Teammates: Not much to report, other than:
We are still in need of one more Van Assistant - so keep your eyes and ears open! As well, we are still trying to locate two volunteers that our team can provide the Wild Miles Relay program. Stacy and Steve, any word on Houch and his plans? What about plans concerning (1) our meeting on Friday afternoon, April 17, (2) van transportation and (3) Friday accommodations?
Should any of your family members or friends ask you about the Wild Miles experience, take time to express the magnitude of the moment. And once you have (or if you just can't), then have them go to the 2007 WMR homepage and click on: It is a Quicktime movie of the 2006 Wild Miles Relay and it may take a moment to download. And if you're at all curious (for first-timers) or sentimental (for returners), then click on the logo above and it will begin shortly...
Based on the pace times submitted by all team members (and applying those specific pace times to the specific assigned legs and their distance), it looks like our initial overall time is 25 hours and 15 minutes. That's about 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier than last year's time over a longer course. Of course, that time is based on our ability to maintain the pace times submitted. To give you an idea of the time frame involved, if we were to begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 28 at Vail Lake, we would conclude the race at San Dieguito County Park at approximately 9:15 am on Sunday, April 29. Again, this is only a rough estimate and does not take into consideration the weather, traffic, course misdirection, exhaustion, etc. I just thought it would be fun to see if we're along the same pace as last year.
Another reminder: The initial assignment of all 30 legs of the 2007 Wild Miles Course has been completed. Now it's up to you to barter, beg or trade any leg that may seem too daunting for you. BUT BEFORE YOU CONSIDER ANY CHANGES, please note that (1) I've assigned the legs so that you have enough time to recuperate by your next leg's challenge and (2) I've assigned the legs so as to balance out the overall mileage and course challenges across the team. Should you wish to change, please contact me first so that I have the most up-to-date assignment listing. When we all gather together on Friday afternoon/evening on April 27, I'll further explain how we'll utilize the leg assignments, pacing times and van leapfrogging along the entire course.
Be sure to review the posted EQUIPMENT LISTS and begin gathering your items for the race. Keep logging those miles and staying loose! Peace, Lee
