A masterpiece. It's not a term that we often use and a term that we most likely have never used to describe ourselves. But today, my friend, I tell you that you are a masterpiece. You and I and your relatives and that colleague you just can't get along with; each and everyone of us are a masterpiece... a "piece of the Master."

Are we perfect? By no means. But then, there are no masterpieces that are flawless either. But our essence - that for which we were each personally designed - was inspired and conceived by the Master. And it is in that purpose that we are masterpieces - mind, body and spirit.

Take our physical presence for a moment. Did you know that human teeth are the ONLY parts of the human body that can't repair themselves? Astounding.

Did you know that the ONLY part of the human body that has no blood supply is the cornea in the eye. It takes in oxygen directly from the air. Amazing.

And did you know that the average human body contains enough:

  • iron to make a 3 inch nail,
  • sulfur to kill all fleas on an average dog,
  • carbon to make 900 pencils,
  • potassium to fire a toy cannon,
  • fat to make 7 bars of soap,
  • phosphorous to make 2,200 match heads,
  • and enough water to fill a ten-gallon tank.

And from this same human body, out of seemingly nowhere and from nothing, can flow an infinite amount of compassion and mercy. Enough to fill a world.

And from this same human body, from infinitesimal physical substance, are acts so grand and so humble and so inspiring that they captivate and change a community, a nation and quite possibly, a world.

What a great and grand Designer to carefully sculpt, mold and place all of this into a humble human body. What a humorous Artist to place a masterpiece in the last place that a human would even look: inside himself or herself.

Today, my friend, truly celebrate your artistic uniqueness as a human. Share a kind word to another. Do a kind deed for another. Utter a humble prayer for another. Continue to help the Grand Artist complete the masterpiece He has in mind for you... remain a piece of the Master.
